The 8th Grade artists made these black and red pottery pieces using the coil method and red earthenware clay. After constructing the forms which were based on ancient Greek pottery, these artists applied a jet black engobe and then scratched in their own designs using the sgraffito method. After the first (bisque) firing, these artists applied a clear transparent glaze and the pieces were fired in the kiln a second time.
