Scroll down to see the variety of drawings the Spring semester's 7th grade artists made using different skills and media.

For the following drawings, the 7th grade artists used several of the skills they had been practicing over the course of the semester to create their own original compositions. After looking at the art of the Surrealists who created artwork while reflecting on their dreams or while using their imaginations, these artists created their own imagined or dreamlike worlds in color and drew their own hands in black and white interacting with that world in some way.

For the drawings pictured below, the artists studied a group of objects arranged as a still life. They closely observed the objects and drew those objects on a piece of 9" x 12" paper while focusing on ideas such as placement, overlapping, size, proportions, space, and the relationships between objects.

For these drawings, the 7th grade artists drew a still life again while only focusing on the outlines of the objects. After simplifying the objects, these artists visually broke up the negative space with a series of diagonal lines. They also divided the outline of the largest object, a piece of pottery, into two halves by drawing a line that roughly fit the curve of the pottery form. Once they had all of their lines drawn in, these artists colored in each shape that they created with a series of analogous colors. They worked with one primary or secondary color and blended it with its neighboring secondary or primary colors to create tertiary colors.
