Scroll down to see the variety of slab forms created by the artists in 8th grade. Over the course of a couple weeks, these artists developed ideas for what their forms would look like, they rolled out slabs of buff clay and cut pieces out of those slabs, they scored and slipped those pieces together after the pieces had become somewhat dry (leatherhard), and they carved or pierced shapes or designs into their assembled forms. After their forms were fired the first time (the bisque firing), they painted on a glaze. After the second firing (the glaze firing), their finished forms had color, were nonporous and food safe, and were stronger.
