Abstract Still Life Drawings

For these pieces, the 7th grade artists drew outlines of objects that sat on a table in front of them. Unlike realistic still life drawings, these pieces focused on the idea of abstraction. By treating the objects as lines and shapes without details or shading, these artists simplified them. As you look at these drawings, you may not instantly tell what it is that you are seeing - the drawings consist of lines, shapes, and colors. As you look at them more carefully, you will see that there are objects - large pottery pieces, blocks, crayon boxes, towels, and other items - present. In terms of the colors, these artists worked with analogous colors, which are three colors next to each other on the color wheel, including one primary or secondary color along with the two tertiary colors next to it. They created these colors by using their primary or secondary color inside every shape. For some shapes, they left this color alone. For the others, they added a layer of the neighboring primary or secondary colors in order to create the tertiary colors.
