Analogous Color Still Life Drawings

These young artists worked with analogous colors - three colors that are next to each other on the color wheel - for this abstract still life drawing. They began by drawing simple outlines of the still life objects and by dividing the negative space around those objects with diagonal lines. They then chose a primary or secondary color which they would add to every shape they created with their lines. Thinking about the color wheel, these artists worked with the two primary or secondary colors next to their main color and blended each of those colors with their main color to create tertiary (or intermediate) colors. For example, an artist may have chosen green as the main color. That artist would have green inside every shape, leaving green by itself in some shapes and mixing green with yellow or blue (the colors next to green on the color wheel) to create yellow-green and blue-green. Yellow-green, green, and blue-green are analogous colors. Working with analogous colors is one way to use a basic color theory for a piece of art.
