These young artists wrote poems and practiced calligraphy before developing their own designs and layouts for these illuminated manuscript pages. Inspired by the traditional of European illuminated manuscripts popular in the Middle Ages and early Renaissance, these artists worked with colors, gold and silver foil, initials, interlace designs, miniatures, and other ideas in order to create these pages.
