Art in Smith Center Junior High

Scroll down to see the Greek forms with sgraffito designs created by these young artists. Using a red earthenware clay, these artists used the coil method to build their forms. Then they covered the outsides of their pieces with jet black engobe and scratched designs through the engobe to reveal the red clay underneath. After the bisque firing in a kiln, the artists covered their forms with a clear transparent glaze and their pieces were fired again.
