Scroll down to see the pencil drawings created by the artists in 8th grade. These artists practiced using their skills with a drawing pencil, tortillon, and kneader eraser as they learned how to use a grid to scale up an image. After talking about issues of copyright, these artists worked from their own photos or from photos that I took to create their drawings. Using a grid to help develop their compositions as accurately as they could, these artists worked from a photograph that measured 7" x 10" or smaller to create a drawing that measured 18" x 12" or larger. Using algebra, they calculated the size of paper that would work with the dimensions of their photographs. Using rulers, they carefully measured out and drew grids on both their photographs and their papers. As with several pieces of art, these artists used a variety of skills to create their work.
